“Draw long bench and palaav”
Gather round. Pull up a chair. Relax and let us talk.
As a people, as a nation and as social human beings, talking is a key component of how we communicate. Culturally, Africans cherish the idea of oral communication as it serves as a concrete means of passing down knowledge and tradition from one generation to the next. The profoundness of the wisdom and experience from the elderly provided not just information for the descendants but also guidance as they tackle life.
We too, can use this simple technique to support each other as we all tackle life on a daily basis. The idea of each person conversing from an authentic space, is grounds to dispel judgement and produce a clear vision that we all are on the same journey and so support is welcomed. Once it is established that we all go through cycles of emotions and are okay with receiving help when needed and returning it when someone else needs it, the better positioned we are to be mentally healthy; not just individually but collectively.
Tribal Talk is the arm of Roar Unleashed that facilitates conversations of a psycho-social nature. It is built on the philosophy that talking is one of the major ways/weapons that a person can use and should use to protect their mind.
